3 priority science questions that need to be answered:
1. What are the parameters of benthic and pelagic population connectivity, and therefore parameters of resilience and post-disturbance recovery? 2. With respect to SMS deep-sea mining specifically, what are naturally occurring rates of bioaccumulation/toxicity and how should development-related impacts be contextualised within a landscape of geologically volatile seabed and natural impacts? 3. What are the techniques, technologies and modelling tools that are needed to answer these and other important science questions on time scales that are sufficiently rapid to respond to development /exploitation proposals?
